These care instructions are only a basic guide.
Variations will apply to some fabrics, especially with all the new blends of fabrics that are now available.
Please check with the shop you purchase your fabric or garment from to clarify the care instructions.
Special washing instructions will apply to some fabrics such as sequined or beaded fabrics, coated, foiled or printed fabrics and textures, as well as speciality weighted textiles or delicate fabrics.
Acetate
Do not twist, wring, or soak coloured garments or fabrics.
Hand wash or machine wash separately in warm water.
Iron on reverse side.
Cotton
Cotton is machine washable and you can even bleach it if it is white.
Hot or warm iron, dry-cleanable, and you can tumble dry it.
Gwenda’s Tip: I always give garments or fabrics a good shake when I remove them from the washing machine as this relaxes the fibres and helps ease up the ironing, if you care to iron.
Linen
Dry-cleaning is recommended to guarantee the colour integrity.
Do not machine wash – hand wash only, but this is at your own risk.
Always dry linen inside out and in the shade to keep the colours as bright as can be as the sun will fade them.
Hot or warm iron.
Merino
Some Merino can be machine washed – check the care label.
For machine washable Merino;
Wash on a gentle or wool cycle and use a wool detergent. Do not use bleach and do not tumble dry.
Give it a shake when you remove it from the machine and let it drip dry in the shade.
Warm iron
Natural Fabrics
Always pre-wash any natural fibre garments or fabrics before wearing or cutting, as natural fabrics can shrink in the first wash.
Always wash and dry the way you are going to care for it with future washes. Separate colours just in case the dye runs.
Nylon or Polyester
Cold machine wash.
Tumble dry only on a low/cool temperature.
Cool iron.
Dry-cleanable.
No bleach.
Rayon or Viscose Fibres
Any cleaning method is suitable for these fibres.
Dry-clean, hand wash or machine wash in a cool cycle.
Do not twist or wring (put in a wash bag to help prevent twisting).
Iron on the reverse side.
Silk
Silk is a natural fibre, but should only be dry-cleaned.
If you want to hand wash it, (at your own risk) use a silk detergent.
Do not bleach or tumble dry.
Give it a good shake when you remove it from the machine and let it drip dry in the shade.
Warm Iron.
Triacetate
Hand or machine wash.
Warm Iron.
Wool
(All non-Merino wools)
Dry-clean only (preferred).
Steaming rather than iron preferred.
Brush fibres to remove surface soiling.
Many new wool fabrics are machine washable. Always follow the care label on the garment.
